After the death of Dr Klaus Wolbert, who for many years, as President of the VAF Foundation, tirelessly promoted contemporary art, not only Italian, writing about the VAF Prize 2021/2022 means, in the words of the President of the Foundation, Thorsten A. Feierabend, that “despite the difficulties, this year takes place”. Born in 2003, in order to promote the artistic and creative potential of young artists born in Italy with a biennial competition that goes beyond national borders, the VAF Foundation Artistic Award aims to boost cultural exchange between Italy and Germany. The organization of the competition boasts numerous and continuous collaborations with important national and German museums, such as the Mart in Rovereto, the Museo della Permanente in Milan, the MACRO Testaccio in Rome, the Civic Museum of Palazzo della Penna in Perugia, the Mathildenhöhe Institute in Darmstadt, the Künstlerhaus in Graz and the Stadtgalerie in Kiel – directed by Dr. Peter Kruska and a destination for students attending the university, the technical institutes and the prestigious Muthesius Institute of Fine Arts and Design.
