IL SOLE 24ORE, STIL’È | SOFIA MACCHI
“Art is a matter of passion”, face to face with Sofia Macchi in an interview that aims to be an in-depth study of the birth and work of the now consolidated Varese gallery. The founder of PUNTO SULL’ARTE talks about the work of the contemporary gallerist and the great satisfaction that this profession gives.
In a central position between Switzerland, Milan and Lake Maggiore, Sofia Macchi has created a reference gallery for Italian and international contemporary figurative art in Varese. For 12 years, PUNTO SULL’ARTE has been a discreet but at the same time welcoming place, full of passion and professionalism. It was opened in 2011, making painting and sculpture the focus of the activity in stark contrast to the conceptual current that was prevalent at the time. Over the years, PUNTO SULL’ARTE has grown and opened two other locations in the historic center of Varese, one of which is entirely dedicated to contemporary Pop art. “I have always wanted beauty,” says Sofia Macchi, “looking for technically good artists who produce a result to be admired and understood without explanation, artists who are easily recognizable by their hand, without even the need to read the signature on the canvas.”
PUNTO SULL’ARTE invests in particular both in artists in a strong growth phase and in those already recognized internationally. This is the case of Annalù, a sculptor of elaborate resin works that are highly sought after all over the world, from the United States to Asia and the Middle East, or Valeria Vaccaro, very skilled in the processing of white Carrara marble. And what about the Slovenian Jernej Forbici, the master Matteo Massagrande and the magical Claudia Giraudo, just to name a few. [….]
