Sabrina Milazzo:between fairytale imagery and contemporary disillusion
Sabrina Milazzo’s painting originates from a deeply rooted collective imagery, choosing as protagonists of her canvases the iconic characters from Walt Disney fairy tales. Easily recognizable through clean brushstrokes and delicate pastel tones, these figures appear deprived of their usual definition: no longer fully formed characters, but images captured in the midst of a process of transformation and dissolution.
Through this reinterpretation of the animated universe, the artist stages the end of childhood enchantment and illusion. It reflects the adult awareness that many of the dreams shaped by those characters and their happy endings are destined to remain just that—dreams. Sabrina Milazzo does not position herself as the architect of this destruction, but as a lucid and conscious witness to an inevitable process.
The art of Sabrina Milazzo
Sabrina Milazzo’s pictorial language moves between figuration and image dissolution. Her subjects, though recognizable, gradually seem to lose consistency, becoming a metaphor for the fragility of expectations and for the transformation of desire in the transition from childhood to adulthood.
Her apparently reassuring chromatic choices contrast with the emotional content of the works, generating a subtle tension between nostalgia and disenchantment. Painting thus becomes a space for reflection on time, memory, and disillusion, where popular imagery is charged with intimate and universal meanings.
