Lorenzo e Simona Perrone Di Bianco e Di Essenza
Curated by Alessandra Redaelli
The renowned Milanese artist couple, Lorenzo and Simona Perrone, presents DI BIANCO E DI ESSENZA, their first solo exhibition at the Galleria PUNTO SULL’ARTE in Varese. The artists showcase unpublished sculptures of great visual and emotional impact, immersing the gallery’s halls in their pure universe, where the book takes center stage.
The VERNISSAGE will take place on SATURDAY, APRIL 12 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the main location of PUNTO SULL’ARTE in Viale Sant’Antonio 59/61, Varese. Alessandra Redaelli, the exhibition curator, along with Lorenzo and Simona Perrone, will be present at the inauguration.
The book becomes a container of culture, history, and reflection in a world dominated by digitalization, where the written word and the rustle of pages seem to disappear. Collected from volumes destined for disposal, the books in the artists’ hands transform into emotional sculptures. The white and material plaster crystallizes powerfully current narratives on themes such as war, the plight of migrants, and the preservation of nature, always suggested through the precision of form and the dialogue of materials.
A book enclosed in a Platonic solid symbolizes the search for balance in a chaotic world, while a skull floating on the waters of a cover invokes the deaths at sea and the 17th-century vanitas. The works offer a reinterpretation of the world and its contradictions while keeping alive the hope for redemption.
The exhibition will remain open until May 31, 2025. The gallery will be regularly open from 2 PM to 5 PM.
LORENZO AND SIMONA PERRONE, Milanese artists, have dedicated over twenty years to developing LibriBianchi, an artwork that expresses their artistic research. Their goal is to explore the connection between books and culture, viewed as a synonym for civilization. Using real books, they intervene with glue, plaster, and water, integrating foreign materials such as barbed wire, glass, stones, wood, and white paint. This transformation allows the book to become an archetypical sculpture, a symbol of culture and knowledge.
Lorenzo Perrone was born in Milan in 1944, developing a passion for publishing and painting from a young age. He attended painting courses at the Castello Sforzesco and the Scuola del Libro dell’Umanitaria. His career began in graphics and communication, living for forty years between Milan, London, and New York, before dedicating himself exclusively to sculpture since 2000.
Simona Vanzetto, born in Florence in 1958, began her career in Paris, expressing herself through costume, fashion, and photography. In the 1990s, she returned to Italy, opening a creative studio in Tuscany. Her passion for art led her to meet Lorenzo Perrone in 2006, giving life to an artistic partnership that resulted in the creation of LibriBianchi.
They have exhibited in numerous galleries in Italy and abroad and participated in industry fairs, receiving wide acclaim. In 2024, they participated in the historic collective exhibition at PUNTO SULL’ARTE “<20 15×15/20×20.” They currently live and work in Milan.
