Jessica Carroll: sculpture, nature and the lightness of matter

The observation of nature and the mysterious balances governing the living world lies at the heart of the artistic research of Jessica Carroll. Her works stand out for their extraordinary ability to transform solid and heavy materials into suspended, delicate and deeply evocative forms.

The art of Jessica Carroll

A central element of Jessica Carroll’s artistic vision is the desire to free matter from its heaviness, creating sculptures that seem to defy gravity even when made of marble, bronze and stone. Through a refined plastic sensitivity, matter is shaped into forms that appear almost ethereal, suspended between reality and imagination.

After an early period devoted to nature photography, etching, drawing and gouache painting, in 1997 the artist began exploring the materiality of marble in Carrara, an experience that profoundly influenced her sculptural language. At the same time, drawing continued to play a fundamental role in her artistic practice.

The figurative universe of her works is inspired by nature and the emergence of life, while avoiding a purely naturalistic representation. Each form appears transformed as if belonging to a dreamlike and timeless realm, where organic, animal and vegetal elements acquire a poetic and symbolic dimension.

Her artistic research develops through a careful observation of the most mysterious laws of nature, such as animal migrations or the way bees construct their hives. Through these reflections, Jessica Carroll explores the deep connections between human perception and that of other living creatures, creating works capable of evoking harmony, fragility and transformation.
