Roberto Bernardi: the triumph of contemporary hyperrealism
Roberto Bernardi is a renowned hyperrealist painter celebrated for his impeccable technical mastery and his ability to transform everyday objects into images of striking visual impact. His works, depicting colorful candies, lollipops, and confectionery with seductive forms, reveal the intrinsic allure of ordinary objects, elevating them to iconic subjects within the pictorial space.
Through an extraordinary rendering of light, transparency, and reflective surfaces, Bernardi constructs compositions of remarkable intensity, where color becomes the core element of a vibrant and distinctly contemporary visual narrative.
The art of Roberto Bernardi
Born in 1974 in Todi (Perugia), Italy, Bernardi initially trained and worked as a restorer in Rome—an experience that strengthened his technical precision and sensitivity to materials. He later devoted himself entirely to painting, embracing Photorealism, the American-born movement of the 1970s, and developing a personal language that merges hyperrealism with subtle Pop influences.
In 2004, he moved to Manhattan, immersing himself in the American art scene and integrating into the prestigious international art world. Between 2004 and 2010, he participated in major artistic projects promoted by American and European collectors, collaborating with leading representatives of the hyperrealist movement.
A pivotal moment in his career came in 2010, when the Italian multinational energy company ENI selected him among a group of emerging talents to reinterpret its corporate communication, adding one of his paintings to its distinguished corporate art collection.
From 2012 onward, Bernardi embarked on an international museum tour, with exhibitions held in prominent institutions across Europe and the United States. His participation in major museum exhibitions consolidated his position among the foremost interpreters of contemporary hyperrealism. In 2014, he was invited to take part in the Biennial of Contemporary Realism at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art (USA).
Over the past decade, his work has continued to evolve, revealing an increasing influence of Pop Art, while maintaining the rigorous technique that defines his practice. His paintings have been featured in academic publications and acquired by significant museum collections, further affirming his status within the global art landscape.
