Il ponte by Matteo Massagrande

With Il Ponte, Matteo Massagrande captures a quiet corner where architecture, water, and nature meet. A small wooden bridge crosses a calm canal, surrounded by timeworn buildings and discreet vegetation reflected in the water. The grazing light highlights the weathered surfaces and the structure of the bridge, creating a suspended and contemplative atmosphere. The work is on view at PUNTO SULL’ARTE Gallery in Varese as part of the solo exhibition SOGLIE – Stanze, Paesaggi, Città.

Alongside painting, he has cultivated an intense graphic practice since the 1970s. He currently lives and works between Padua and Hajós, Hungary.

Description “Il ponte”

In Il Ponte, Massagrande structures the composition through the perspective of the wooden railings and walkways, guiding the viewer’s gaze toward the water and the buildings beyond. The surfaces of the walls and structures reveal the marks of time, while light shapes the volumes and creates a subtle play of reflections on the water. The painting conveys an intimate and silent vision of the space.

Conclusion

The work resonates with the theme of the exhibition SOGLIE, dedicated to spaces of passage and transition. In Il Ponte, the small bridge becomes a symbol of connection between places and perspectives, inviting the viewer to pause and contemplate the quiet atmosphere of the scene. The artwork is on view at PUNTO SULL’ARTE Gallery in Varese until May 9, 2026.
