Alessandro Papetti is an Italian artist born in Milan in 1958. He is known for his exploration of industrial archaeology and the human condition through painting. His career began in the 1980s, with early solo exhibitions that brought him to the attention of contemporary Italian art.

Between 1988 and 1990, Papetti created the series “Portraits Viewed from Above.” This work attracted critical attention, thanks to an article by Giovanni Testori in the “Corriere della Sera.” Here, he began to develop a wide-angle vision of reality, which became distinctive of his style.

In the 1990s, Papetti evolved with the series “Relics.” He meticulously analyzed forms and traces left by time in spaces like studios and factories. These works reflect his interest in the past and its impact on the present. From 1992, he explored industrial archaeology, culminating in a significant exhibition at the Civic Museums of Villa Manzoni in Lecco in 1996.

In the new millennium, he introduced the series “Water.” Here, he represents figures suspended in pools or about to immerse themselves in a dark sea. He explores the connection between humans and the environment. The “Shipyards” became a central theme, with works dedicated to industrial ports and ships.

Papetti has participated in numerous exhibitions, such as “The Discomfort of Painting” in 2005 and “The Belly of the City” in 2006. His notoriety grew internationally with his presence at the Venice Biennale in 2011 and an exhibition at the Museum of Architecture in Moscow in 2012.
