Daydream by Johannes Nielsen

Daydream presents a slender, essential figure, suspended in a state of lightness and quiet balance. The sculpture, elongated and weightless in appearance, seems to defy gravity and transform into pure gesture, air, and movement. Its minimal lines and smooth surface create an image that shifts between presence and absence, as if the body were about to rise from the ground or dissolve into light. In Levitate, Nielsen captures a moment of pure suspension, where fragility meets an unexpected inner strength.

The artist: Johannes Nielsen

Nielsen is known for his light, tree-inspired sculptures that merge natural forms with human and animal silhouettes. His bodies emerge from a dialogue with nature, borrowing the structure of trunks and branches to shape limbs and posture. These elongated figures evoke a world balanced between melancholy and hope. Born in Falkenberg in 1979, he trained in Sweden and Ireland, refining his sculptural practice with artist Patrick O’Reilly. He has exhibited across Europe, the United States, and Asia, and his works are part of numerous public and private collections. Since 2011 he has been represented in Italy by PUNTO SULL’ARTE. He lives and works in Beijing.

Description

In Daydream, the figure appears freed from weight. Its long, fluid lines follow a movement inspired by the growth of branches and the rhythm of natural forces. The body seems introspective, caught in a moment of meditation or transformation. The work conveys a sense of impermanence: what we see feels ready to shift, lift, or dissolve. Nielsen plays with the fine boundary between balance and fragility, inviting the viewer to perceive the delicate tension that sustains the form.

Conclusion

Daydream speaks with grace and intensity. A minimal figure becomes a symbol of suspension, contemplation, and change. Through its essential elegance, Nielsen reminds us of the transient nature of existence and the quiet poetry that emerges from lightness. It is an artwork that moves with just a few lines, leaving room for reflection and wonder.
