Eric Roux-Fontaine: between myth, memory and inner visions

Eric Roux-Fontaine develops his pictorial research as a sensory and visionary journey, an odyssey between myth and memory, where color becomes a vehicle of narration and revelation. His painting draws from transfigured realities and inner landscapes, conceived as thresholds between visible and invisible worlds.

His canvases, dense with symbols and cultural references, unfold as fragments of a permanent rêverie, suspended narratives between dream and history, between traversed places and interiorized worlds. Within them, the painterly gesture echoes a primordial energy, capable of transforming matter into emotion, nature into myth, and memory into color.

The art of Eric Roux-Fontaine

Roux-Fontaine’s artistic practice is shaped by a continuous movement between the silence of the studio and the exploration of the world. His long journeys—from India to Central America—become profound quests for meaning, immersions into Romani cultures, rituals, and mythologies inhabiting the lands he crosses.

From these experiences emerge layered works imbued with spirituality, where each element appears to belong to a geography of the soul. Painting becomes an act of emotional transmutation, an alchemy that distills beauty from the world and restores it in visual form.

A multidisciplinary artist, Roux-Fontaine has collaborated with writers and musicians, expanding his practice into graphic novels and visual storytelling. His travel diaries, such as Rajasthan: A Journey to the Romani Origins, and the volume inspired by Kipling’s The Jungle Book, reflect a poetic language grounded in travel, myth, and memory.

In 2024, the documentary Dépaysage by Pierre Gadrey explored his visual universe, offering an intimate perspective on his painting as an act of transformation and revelation.
